Cinnamon Ornelas, Central Region President

I was appointed as a United States Probation Officer in the Western District of Texas on April 28, 1997. Originally, I worked in the Del Rio Division of the Western District of Texas for over two years. In 1999, I transferred to the Austin Division where I am a presentence investigation writer. I was also a part of the division’s training team. In 2002, I was appointed by then FPPOA president Isabel Pruneda as the Association’s newsletter editor. I have continued in this capacity for six years, having served two terms under former FPPOA president Jerry L. Evans. During my tenure on the national board, I have assisted with the National Training Institute in Nashville, Tennessee, and Seattle, Washington. I have also represented the Association as part of the Probation Officer’s Advisory Group (POAG) to the United States Sentencing Commission.

About the Region:

The Central Region of FPPOA consists of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas. In February, 1998 the Central Region hosted the First National Training Institute in San Antonio, Texas, the headquarters for the Western District of Texas. The Central Region honors an Officer every year through the Adolfo Sanchez Line Officer of the Year Award. Adolfo “Al” Sanchez was appointed as a Federal Probation Officer on February 19, 1973. At the time of his death in July, 1994, he served as a substance abuse specialist for the El Paso, Texas Division. In 1981, Al Sanchez was the Line Officer of the Year, an award which today bears his name. The Regional President is Mitsi Westendorff.
