The 1984 Bail Reform Act permitted courts to consider danger to the community in setting bail conditions, permitted courts to deny bail altogether where a defendant poses a grave danger to others, tightened the criteria for post-conviction release pending sentencing and appeal, and provided for release revocation and increased penalties for crimes committed while on release for bail jumping.
