FPPOA: New and Improved in 2017 (A must read)

2017 has brought some changes to the board of the Federal Probation and Pretrial Officers Association (FPPOA): new board members and a new enthusiasm. So often you hear, “We need you as a member,” and so many times we as a board hear “what is FPPOA doing?” Well, here is what is actively going on right now.

Extensive planning for the 2017 FPPOA National Training Institute (NTI) to be held at the Omni Orlando Championsgate in Florida from August 20 to 23 (you’re going to want to attend this event!); development of a survey to seek line input on the duties of our job, to be communicated to the AO for the next work membership study; attendance of FPPOA board at Probation Officer Advisory Group (POAG) meetings and Community Corrections Collaborative Network (CCCN)/National Institute of Corrections meetings; Line Officer of the Year presentations in the various regions; research on various issues related to officer duties; gathering of information related to officer wellness and stress reduction; and more.

On December 19, 2016, newly elected National President Craig Penet met with Chief Matthew Roland and Chief Tony San Giacomo (CAG Chair) at the Administration Office in D.C. to discuss numerous issues related to the field. This open conversation included numerous topics, and the three agreed to communicate and collaborate on items right away. We all must understand that change is difficult at times, but the lines of communication between the AO and FPPOA are open. We can all agree that our job is more difficult today. By working together and exchanging knowledge and information, we can make our jobs better.

In order to be a strong voice, we need you as a member. There are over a dozen officers who presently take the time to serve as a board member with FPPOA and work to make our voice heard. The larger we are, the stronger we can advocate. Our dues have not changed in over 15 years and simply go towards the basic costs of operating the organization, providing Line Officer of the Year awards, maintaining a website, etc.

Please become a FPPOA member now to support the association that is taking the time to help make our system better! There are many things on the horizon for FPPOA. Remember, FPPOA is the only representative association dedicated exclusively to U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Officers. Be a part of that voice!

If you have any questions, reach out to the national board members or regional presidents. Please, go to the website now and renew, or become a member. If you’re uncertain about your membership status, we will gladly assist. Thank you…..
